Black Math Homework

A teacher in Lawrenceville, Ga. created and 4 other teachers handed the questions as math homework with some very difficult and complex word problems that require more than can be expected of 3rd graders. I would say I’m appalled but unfortunately in my years of living on this earth I have come across countless acts of pure stupidity. Am I jaded? maybe but with just cause.

One of the questions that was included in the math homework:

“Each tree had 56 oranges. If 8 slaves pick them equally, then how much would each slave pick?”

Another question that was on the math homework was:

“If Frederick got two beatings each day, how many beatings did he get in one week?”

The usual uproar has followed and parents have demanded that the teachers be fired and rightly so. Only one of the teachers have been allowed to resigned no information has been provided by the Gwinnett County Schools spokeperson as to why the other teachers have not resigned.

On a lighter note though the questions did make me actually solve the problem due to the nature of the questions. Could this be the start of a new alternative method of helping kids learn? I think it’s a possibility.

  1. White people are insensitive because they have never had a plight. You can’t tell me 7 or 8 different teachers saw this test and not one of them thought…This may not be a good idea.
